A man was kicked to the floor and stabbed by a group of people while walking through a graveyard in East Oxford.

Two men were walking through the graveyard of St Mary and St John Church in Cowley Road on Monday night between 10pm and 12am.

Thames Valley Police said the men were approached by a group of men and a woman.

One of the victims fled but the other, a 34-year-old man, was kicked to the floor and attacked with a knife.

He was stabbed in the arms and had bruising to his face and body.

His wallet and phone were also stolen.

He was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital where he received treatment for his injuries, and has since been released.

Charlie Paterson, 29, of Boundary Brook Road, Oxford, has been charged with one count of robbery.

Aaron Johnson, 27, of Mathern Way, Chepstow, has been charged with one count of assault.

They have both been remanded in custody and are due to appear at Oxford Magistrates' court tomorrow. 

Officers are encouraging anyone with any information to come forward.

Investigating officer Det Sgt James Senior of Local CID in Oxford, said: “I would ask anyone who thinks that they might have witnessed this incident, or who might have any information, to get in touch with us by contacting the Thames Valley Police enquiry centre on 101.”
