AS commuters make their way home for the day, some of them will find themselves in the traffic queues building around the city.

There have been reports of major delays around the city centre, with traffic being particularly bad along Iffley Road, Cowley Road, St Clements, Marston Ferry Road, Botley Road and Donnington Bridge.

Traffic is heavier than normal on the A4142 Eastern By-Pass Road Southbound between B480 Garsington Road and A4158 Oxford Road.

It appears that drivers hoping to avoid delays on Woodstock Road are causing queues on the A4165 Banbury Road out of town between A4144 Beaumont Street and Magdalen Street and B4495 Moreton Road.

Queues are building because of temporary traffic lights on A4144 Woodstock Road out of town at Wyndham Way with congestion tailing back to St Giles'.

The traffic lights are in place for today only as water main works are carried out but it is causing queues right back to the centre of Oxford.

The usual delays on the B4495 Marston Ferry Road Westbound between B4150 Marsh Lane and A4165 Banbury Road are not helped by extra delays on Banbury Road and Woodstock Road.

Oxford Bus Company has said its Brookes service was delayed by up to 45 minutes due to the traffic.
