AN Oxford pub which is on the market has received several serious offers, the firm marketing it has said.

And it looks like the General Eliott in South Hinksey might well be reopened as the last pub in the village for a second time.

London property firm Davis Coffer Lyons said this week that it was dealing with a number of interested potential buyers for the inn.

The company told the Oxford Mail: "We have quite quite a lot of interest and now have a number of offers on the table.

"Mainly these are private individuals looking to keep it open as a pub."

The firm, which is selling the Eliott at a guide price of £550,000, said it would be able to provide more information in the coming weeks.

South Hinksey residents Cass and Helen Hazlewood bought the lease on the village pub in 2014 after five years of closure, seeing off attempts to turn the building into homes.

But just a year later in 2015 they put the inn back on the market through the London agency.

Villagers said they were confused and upset when the pub suddenly closed without any official explanation.

The three-storey stone building comes with a beer garden, parking and a staff annexe, plus outline planning permission for five additional letting rooms.
