A LEGENDARY piece of the Headington skyline is up for grabs once more as Bill Heine's 'Shark House' has gone back up for rent.

The sought-after BBC Radio Oxford presenter's former home is being leased for £2,300 a month due to its "attractive location, three expansive bedrooms and sunny conservatory" – with the added pull of the enormous carbon-fibre shark crashing into the roof.

Lettings agents Connells, of London Road, said the property offered the chance to "reside under one of Oxford's most well known and appreciated pieces of art".

It added: "'The Shark House', as it is so fondly known, is conveniently placed for all the local amenities and schools.

"The various hospitals and colleges Oxford has to offer are also within easy reach, making it ideal for a professional family.

"Viewings are highly recommended to appreciate fully the novelty and value of this property."

The otherwise unassuming house gained national fame when in 1986 Mr Heine commissioned the art piece by sculptor John Buckley.

Originally called 'Untitled 1986', it was meant to commemorate the 42st anniversary of the atomic bomb being dropped on Nagasaki.

A six-year battle with Oxford City Council ensued after it emerged planning permission had not been granted, ending when the then-Minister for Environment intervened.

The house itself has been rented out several times over the past four years, with the previous tenants taking up residence in January 2015 after a six-month hunt by Mr Heine for "bubbly and gregarious" tenants who could "really understand and be engaged with a sense of delight in the local community" – and deal with photo requests.

Speaking about living in the iconic house in 2012, former resident Debbie Bennett said: "We are very used to looking out of the window and seeing someone looking back at us.

"People ask us questions as we leave the house so we make sure we know enough about it to answer them."

Other features of the house include three large double bedrooms each with ensuite bathroom, a stone-tiled kitchen, living area and study and a conservatory as well as its own rear garden.

Agents have noted it is "aesthetically pleasing throughout with the kitchen being finished to a high standard... The stone tiled floor gives the feel of a country kitchen and makes for an idyllic heart of the household."
