CROWDS of cheery people filled the streets in Jericho this afternoon for its annual street fair.

Hundreds turned out for the event featuring food stalls, live music, a bouncy castle and morris dancers, despite the somewhat gloomy weather.

Tents were clustered near St Barnabas Church, in Canal Street, with performances also given by the Oxford City Morris Men jointly with the Oxford University Morris Men.

City councillor Colin Cook was one of many punters to enjoy the real ales on sale at the Old Bookbinders pub, where people sat outside to watch musicians play live.

He said: "The street fair is always a fantastic way of getting people together and there is a genuine sense of community.

"Also, the beer is excellent."

Charlotte Christie, event organiser and Jericho Community Association chairman, added: "There are lots of people involved in getting things together, so it is great to see everything fall into place and people enjoying themselves."

Marston dad-of-two Keith Spiller, who came along with Macky, six, and Zinzi, 10, tried some tasty Tibeten food from one of the street stalls.

The 44-year-old said: "It's always a great day out.

"Our first priority when we got here was to get food and we're also looking forward to listening to some music."
