Hungry churchgoers in Blackbird Leys will be treated to a feast of bacon, eggs and goodwill

People across the country are being encouraged to host a 'big brekkie' on Saturday in aid of the charity, which fights poverty and its effects across the developing world.

Staff at the brand new Communi-Tea cafe at the Church of the Holy Family are rolling up their sleeves ahead of the event between 10am and 12pm, which will also include a bric-a-brac stall, children's activities and games.

Churchwarden Andy Pledge said: "We aren't dropping Christian Aid envelopes around this year but we are having a big breakfast event for people to come and have sausages, bacon or porridge and toast - whatever they want - in aid of Christian Aid."

Mr Pledge, 42, has also been hand-crafting wooden holding crosses to swap for charity donations over the course of the week.

Recycled wood was donated from Pathway Workshop in Greater Leys for the endeavour, which raised about £250 last year.

He said: "It's for such a good cause. Christian Aid isn't just a week; it's a 356-day, 24-seven thing."
