FILM lovers will be able to enjoy classic movies under the stars in a series of iconic Oxford locations, with the return this summer of a a season of outdoor cinema.

Cult Screens has announced it is set to bring its open-air theatre back to Oxford, transforming city locations into a movie fan's paradise.

Ever-popular musicals and vintage favourites will hit the big screen while film-goers sit back and relax with a cocktail.

Cult Screens founder Phil Cottle said: "It is a fantastic experience to watch a film outside under the stars. It is unique. The atmosphere is always great. It's a relaxed, friendly night out.

The Old Prison Exercise Yard at Oxford Castle, the Pitt Rivers Museum and St Hugh's College will all form the backdrop for the summer outdoor entertainment between May 26 and September 17.

Films include Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Casablanca, Groundhog Day, Dirty Dancing and Back to the Future.

The pop up cinemas will also screen Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Grease, Top Gun, Shawshank Redemption and The Revenant, and Romeo + Juliet.

Mr Cottle said: "We give people the opportunity to share their love of film with a group of people. It's a celebration of films, for people who love a film or have grown up with a film."

Movie-goers can watch their favourite films while relaxing on double beanbags and under blankets in a prime spot near the front of the screening.

Deckchairs, director's chairs and comfy floor cushions will also guarantee a great night in the summer breeze during the summer programme of films.

Oxford food crew Bitten Street has also confirmed it will bring top-notch treats to the three locations, while a bar will provide film fans with their favourite tipples.

Mr Cottle said he decided to take his open-air cinema experience across the nation after being inspired by similar events in London and abroad.

The 36-year-old said he has been entertaining film lovers in Oxford with the outdoor theatre-fun since 2013.

Cult Screens has also partnered with Parkinsons UK and will be donating 10 per cent of all bar profits to the charity.

Double beanbags are £32, single beanbags are £16 and £13.50 for concessions, while deckchairs and director's chairs are £14.50.

Floor cushions are £12 or £9.50 for concessions
