THE LAST remaining pub in Summertown will be re-branded when it opens up to punters once again next month.

The Dew Drop Inn was taken over by pub, restaurant and bar operator Mitchells and Butlers in 2014 with the promise of a refurbishment.

The firm operate a number of brands including All Bar One, Toby Carvery and Harvester but the Summertown pub will keep its name and become part of the Castle brand, according to a job advert for the role of kitchen manager.

Other Castle pubs nearby include The Royal Oak, The Cape of Good Hope and The Jericho Tavern.

The plans will see one of the pub's front doors bricked in and frontage given a revamp with an outside window being converted into double doors.

A new flue system will also be installed in the kitchen.

Long-serving managers Barry and Lesley Greenhough called time on their 30-year stewardship last summer which saw them work under a plethora of owners including Courage Brewery, Grand Metropolitan and Orchid Inns.

A number of pubs in Summertown have closed down over the years including the Kings Arms – now Chinese restaurant Dancing Dragon – and the Woodstock Arms in Woodstock Road, leaving the Dew Drop Inn as the last one.

The pub will re-open on May 12.
