A DATE has been set for the completion of the £11m Milton Interchange works to create a new hamburger roundabout.
Work started more than a year ago to convert the A34 junction, near Didcot, building a road through its centre.
Oxfordshire County Council deputy leader Rodney Rose has said the work is expected to be finished by Sunday, May 8, and hopes the new roundabout will boost the junction’s traffic capacity by 30 per cent.
He said: "We have seen in other areas in the county that we get up to 30 per cent more traffic through the area just by introducing the hamburger regime - so we are hoping for the same for the Milton Interchange.
"It was hoped to finish around the end of April and early May and to have kept it open was a big operation which I think they have done very well."
Since work started in January last year the area has seen a full traffic management system in place for most of the year including 30mph and 40mph speed restrictions and overnight closures on the A34.
