A NEW daytime club offering activities for the over-50s has proved a big hit with the city's older generation.

Members of the East Oxford Community Association have set up the weekly group to help combat loneliness.

As well as having the chance to see friends and meet new people, club visitors also enjoy a range of activities including board games, sewing and pool.

Trustee and club organiser Catherine Gundry said: "We want to serve the people in our area who need to feel included and may otherwise be isolated.

"This is a user-led group so people can make their own decisions about what they do. Every little choice is made by our members."

Group members have also been refurbishing their room in the East Oxford Community Centre by adding new curtains, cushion covers and chairs.

The group meet on Mondays from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
