EIGHTIES legends Duran Duran will storm Oxford's South Park to headline one of the star highlights of this year's musical calendar.

The brains behind Common People festival today announced the iconic four-piece are to headline this May's two-day festival.

Multi-platinum superstars Duran Duran – who boast floor-filling hits Hungry Like the Wolf, Girls on Film and The Wild Boys among their back catalogue – will head-up the Saturday night bill, playing to an anticipated crowd of 25,000 people.

It comes after the band's show-stopping performance at last year's Bestival in the Isle of Wight, which itself was organised by Common People curator Rob Da Bank.

Duran Duran’s bass guitarist John Taylor said: "We are very honoured to be a part of this year’s Common People festival, we had such an incredible time at Bestival last year. It’s going to be a fantastic weekend. See you all there."

The Brummie-originated popsters are no strangers to Oxford, having last graced the city's stage at Cowley Road's 02 Academy in September 2011. Frontman Simon Le Bon also married Oxford-born British supermodel Yasmin Parvaneh in the city in 1985.

Today's highly anticipated announcement also revealed dance music trailblazer Katy B, whose 2014 album Little Red took the top spot in the UK charts, will also take to the stage.

She was one of many acts who pulled out of playing South Park in last year's Oxford Oxford festival, which was eventually cancelled due to poor ticket sales.

Common People organiser Rob da Bank, who was at the helm of last year's Southampton festival of the same name, said: "We were already off to a flyer with Common People selling out last year, announcing a second site this year, with our beautiful South Park location in Oxford, overlooking the dreaming spires, and now we’re putting the cherry on top with the news that Duran Duran will be headlining a day in each city.

"Icons of the last four decades, the boys are still churning out hits and absolutely smashed it at our mothership show Bestival last year. I’m also delighted to announce Katy B will be joining the party. See you in the fields."
