EDUCATION bosses in Oxfordshire have written to a regional education boss three times to express concern about a Blackbird Leys school, it has emerged.

Oxfordshire County Council’s scrutiny committee was told officers contacted regional schools commissioner Martin Post about Windale Primary School.

The school was one of several across the UK to be converted into an academy in 2013, after it failed to reach national benchmarks for English and maths in 2011.

But it was placed in special measures last year after schools watchdog Ofsted rated it inadequate in all areas, with another report published last November saying staff were “not taking effective action”.

The county council is not responsible for academies but says it is committed to helping all Oxfordshire schools achieve high standards.

At the committee meeting yesterday, director of children’s services Jim Leivers told councillors: “I have written to Mr Post about Windale on three separate occasions. The response was that they are aware of the issues and are working on it.”

Windale Primary is part of the Blackbird Academy Trust, which also manages the estate’s other primary schools, Pegasus and Orchard Meadow. Orchard Meadow has been in special measures since 2012, while Pegasus was rated good in 2013.
