HANGING decorations on the Christmas tree is an essential part of any festive season.

But at Oxford Central Library things were slightly different this year as young people added special ‘speech baubles’ to a ‘tree of wishes’.

The decoration ceremony saw young people who had been taking part in the Find Your Voice project add the baubles, which contain their wishes and ideas for change, to the tree.

The Find Your Voice scheme is run by Oxfordshire County Council to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta and 750 years since the birth of Parliament in England.

Workshops will continue until early next year, including a Pegasus theatre performance in Wantage Library next month.

Oxford Spires Academy students are also working with writer Kate Clanchy on a poetry and creative writing project while pupils from Lord Williams’s School in Thame are making a film with local company InsightShare.

County council cabinet member for cultural and community services Lorraine Lindsay-Gale said: “We have been working with more than 400 young people in libraries across Oxfordshire during 2015. It has been incredibly enjoyable.”
