COULD this be the fairytale ending that Downton Abbey fans have been waiting for?

As the historic period drama comes to a conclusion this Sunday, it looks as though one of the drama’s own staffers has dropped a strong hint of the plot, after leaving behind a crucial clue in St Mary’s Church, Bampton.

A wedding programme has reportedly been found lying on the set.

According to The Telegraph, the “document revealed details of a wedding due to take place later this season, including the name of the bride and groom, and the couple’s chosen hymns, prayers and vows”.

The storyline could feature the marriage of Carson the butler, played by Jim Carter and head housekeeper Mrs Hughes, played by Phyllis Logan.

But it has also been reported that the Earl of Grantham Robert Crawley’s daughter Lady Edith Crawley, played by Laura Carmichael, will also tie the knot.

Bampton has doubled up as the fictional Yorkshire village of Downton, supposedly somewhere between Ripon and Thirsk, since the show was first broadcast in September 2010.
