On Friday, Prime Minister and Witney MP David Cameron made a surprise appearance for an interview with Lord Hennessy.

The Oxford Mail’s sister paper, The Oxford Times, is the official regional media partner of the festival.

Jill Dunsmore, co-founder and deputy chairwoman, said: “We have had a wonderful year, with what has been our most diverse and prestigious programme ever.

“The appearances that stood out for me this time were the performances by Jacqui Dankworth and Maureen Lipman, and the interview with the Prime Minister, which was very well received.“Daphne Selfe was also just lovely and modest, and so full of life.”
