A MAN who escaped from prison yesterday morning was last seen travelling towards Oxford.
John Rooney left HMP Springhill, Aylesbury this morning at about 6.30am yesterday.
Police believe he could pose a risk to the public.
The 47-year-old, who was sentenced to 27 years in prison in 2003 for robbery and kidnapping, was last seen on a bus travelling towards Oxford from Bicester at 7.05am.
He is white, 5ft 8ins, slim, with brown hair and has tattoos on his left arm, left wrist, hand and fingers. He also has tattoos on his right hand, and letters on his right fingers and a scar on his right hand.
When he left the prison he was wearing a blue top, blue jeans and was carrying a bag.
Police believe Rooney represents a risk of harm to the public and are urging anyone who sees him not to approach him but to call 999 immediately.
