HOW do you capture the feel of a city? What makes it memorable and distinctive?
Three Oxford artists have taken on the challenge of capturing the essence of Oxford by presenting three different views of their city.
In an exhibition at Oxford Town Hall, Jill Green, who only recently moved to the city, paints scenes of Oxford’s “academic” side from the perspective of one “looking in from the outside”. Brighid Shroer, from Marston, presents views of her green walk into the city, while Katherine Shock has been painting Oxford “from the inside” for years.
Mrs Shock, born in London, moved to Oxford more than 30 years ago.
She said: “Walking round the beautiful city of Oxford always makes me want to stop to try to capture what is so evocative about this very special place; the colour of the light reflected on mellow stone or off the sparkling water from the river, the narrow alleys through magnificent architecture.”
The trio met doing a part-time Art Foundation course at Oxford and Cherwell College in Banbury in 2007, but this is their first show together.
It runs until September 14.
