CYCLISTS have been asked to put their talents to good use to help power a film evening in Rose Hill.

A series of films starring people from the estate will hit the silver screen at a film night on Friday, July 24.

The Rose Hill TV project will be given its premiere at Rose Hill Primary School and will be followed by a feature film, yet to be decided, lasting about 90 minutes.

All of the electricity needed for the evening will be provided by pedal power from static bikes.

Cyclists from across the county are needed to help pedal the bikes and keep the juice flowing for more than two hours.

Rose Hill community worker Fran Gardner said: “It would be great to get both individual cyclists and cycling clubs involved and turn it into a sort of competition.

“Rose Hill TV will run for about half an hour and it is one thing to pedal for that long.

“But for another hour and a half afterwards during the feature film is another thing.

“So we really want regular cyclists to get involved.”

The Rose Hill TV project has been filming since February and has seen youngsters from Rose Hill Junior Youth Club, as well as residents from the estate, star in short films.

These films are currently being edited together to make a final piece that will play out as if someone is changing between six TV channels; music, sports, nature, news, food and a soap opera.

This final cut will be screened at 7.30pm on July 24 on a 25ft inflatable screen.

The 15 bikes are being provided by Electric Pedals, a company that designs and builds pedal-powered equipment for a range of events.

Ms Gardner said: “They are passionate about renewable energy and all that sort of stuff.

“It is their real passion.

“They will also bring along the inflatable screen.

“If there is a breeze it just flexes in the wind.

“It will sit at the front of Rose Hill Primary School and will be ready to go from about 7pm.”

The event will be free of charge and if more people turn up than can fit inside the school grounds, there will be space in The Oval in view of the screen.

Oxfordshire County Council chairman John Sanders will attend the event and will award certificates to the youngsters who took part in the filming of Rose Hill TV.

Ms Gardner said: “The bikes will be set up from about 7pm to encourage people to come in, get on them and play their part.

“It should be a fantastic evening and it would be great to see cyclists get involved.”
