A GARDEN designer from North Hinksey has won her third Five Star Award at the Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show.

Sarah Naybour won the award – highest possible for show stands – on Wednesday for the third year in the row.

Working with sculptor David Harber, who has a workshop near Blewbury, she designed the garden around his sundials and artwork as a woodland glade.

She said: “I am delighted and proud to have achieved yet another Five Star Award.

“This is my third time at Chelsea and I hope there will be many more ahead.”

The annual five-day Chelsea Flower Show celebrates the best that gardening gurus have to offer and regularly attracts royalty, celebrities and visitors from around the world.

Held in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, it has 150,000 visitors each year.

Mrs Naybour, of Yarnells Hill, said: “The stand is on Main Avenue, the busiest thoroughfare in what is the garden world’s premiere showcase.

“It is hugely competitive to get a space, and you know you have to aim for perfection.

“This is what makes the win so very special.”

The win is the culmination of a year of work , with plans already taking shape for the 2016 Flower Show.

Mrs Naybour, 50, added: “This year, David wanted something completely different.

“We chose a gently curved glen as the theme, using natural woodland trees.”

This year’s design featured 11 varieties of Betula tree underplanted with shrubs, ferns and flowers including Hosta, Digitalis, Dutch Iris and Camassia.

The garden was hedged with small gaps to create framed glimpses of the sculptures and entice visitors in to explore.

The garden centrepiece was Mr Harber’s glittering Filium Orb sculpture featuring lattice work in distressed and textured metal.

In the corner of the stand, a timber and shingle-roofed shelter has came in handy to protect visitors from the rain.

Mrs Naybour – a graduate of the Oxford College of Garden Design – was one of 13 Oxfordshire exhibitors at the prestigious event, which finished on Saturday.
