BANK Holiday rail services will be affected if a planned stike by staff at Network Rail goes ahead.

The National Union for Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) workers has said that members of Network Rail will stage a 24-hour national strike in a row over pay.

The industrial action is planned to begin at 5pm on Monday, May 25.

Chiltern Railways and First Great Western services are predicted to be affected by the strike.

Network Rail maintains the infrastructure of the railways across England, Wales and Scotland.

Spokesman for First Great Western James Davis said: “We are continuing to talk with Network Rail about the impact of the strike.

“Like other rail operators, we hope that talks will continue between the RMT and Network Rail and the matter can be resolved.

“[But] we will let our customers know any updates.”

It is not known how many RMT members will strike in Oxfordshire.
