OUTLINE plans for a new 270-home estate in Littlemore could be approved on Wednesday.

The Armstrong Road scheme would redevelop a former gas works site and has been put forward by Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust.

This week a report by Oxford City Council officers said the scheme should go ahead in principle, subject to legal agreements including flood mitigation, noise and drainage.

It recommended that councillors on the east area planning committee give approval when they meet on Wednesday night.

More detailed applications would then be considered at a later stage.

City council planning officer Andrew Murdoch wrote: “Officers have considered carefully all objections to these proposals and have come to the view that the objections do not amount, individually or cumulatively, to a reason for refusal.”

But it comes after a series of objections about pressures that the new homes could place on infrastructure and services.

The Environment Agency had also raised objections about a flood risk assessment carried out, but withdrew them last month after a new one was produced.

It has now asked for a land contamination study to be carried out.The committee meeting to decide on the proposals is at the Town Hall, St Aldate’s, at 6pm on Wednesday.
