A 24-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested after a teenage girl was allegedly dragged off the street into a city centre lane and raped.

He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court today.

Police said the 19-year-old girl was attacked after a night out at a city centre club. She became separated from her friends and was walking in Midland Street when she was allegedly dragged into nearby Midland Lane and raped at around 5.30am yesterday.

The victim suffered minor injuries and was left extremely traumatised by her ordeal.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have been in the area at the time of the attack.

Detective Inspector Andy McWilliam, who is leading the investigation, said: "The young woman had been enjoying a night out and had become separated from her friends prior to the attack.

"She has been left extremely distressed following her ordeal.

"I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area of Midland Street near the Arches nightclub, who may have witnessed the attack or who can help us identify the suspect, to come forward as a matter of urgency."

Meanwhile, police in Glasgow are still hunting a sex attacker who raped a woman in her home after they met in a city centre club.

The 38-year-old was assaulted in her flat in Glasgow's West End by a man she met in the Polo Lounge.

The pair left the club together and walked down Glassford Street, where they hailed a taxi.

They travelled to the woman's home in Partick, where she was subjected to a brutal sex attack in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Anyone with information on either incident should contact City Centre Police on 0141 532 3000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
