Two men have been arrested and charged with production of cannabis following raids on houses in Oxford.

Quy Ly, 33, of no fixed address, appeared at Oxford Magistrates' Court yesterday following the raid at Titup Hall Drive, Wood Farm, yesterday.

Another man, also of no fixed address, has been charged in relation to a raid at Westbury Crescent, Rose Hill last week and is due to appear at Oxford Magistrates' Court on Thursday. A total of 510 plants were seized during the raids, as part of Operation Falcon, said police.

Sgt Yak Teladia, of the North East Oxford beat team, who led the Wood Farm operation, warned landlords to vet tenants carefully.

He said: "This is an issue that Thames Valley Police is taking very seriously, but we are reliant on public support to stop these factories becoming established and operating in the Oxford area.

"We are equally reliant on landlords to make sure growers aren't using their properties. And it is not just for the public or the police's good, but the landlords themselves.

"This four-bedroom house had recently been renovated, but has had tens of thousands of pounds of damage caused to it, and will be uninhabitable for many weeks if not months.

"Potential landlords should consider the economic costs of allowing their properties to be used by unscrupulous people."

Operation Falcon is a joint project by Thames Valley Police, Oxford City Council, health and social services, and other support agencies, including CANACT, the Crime and Nuisance Action Team.
