YOU did not have to be mad as a hatter at this special tea party, but it helped.

Oxford Brookes launched two teas to mark its 150th anniversary with an Alice in Wonderland themed tasting – chosen because the inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s story, Alice Liddell, attended the unversity when it was Oxford School of Art in the 1860s.

The Brookes Breakfast and Brookes Grey teas were brewed by tea tasting and blending company Blends with Friends and were selected by students from the university’s tea society.

Sarah Warwick, the university’s post and distribution manager, dressed up as the Queen of Hearts for the launch.

She said: “It was a very successful launch. There was tea tasting and being an Alice in Wonderland theme there were jam tarts. Sales of the tea are going really well.”

The tea is available to buy from the Colonnade shop and being served in the Abercrombie Café on the Headington Campus.

Pro-Vice Chancellor June Girvin said: “Our John Henry anniversary ale was hugely popular but we wanted to offer something non-alcoholic to encourage even more people to take part in our 2015 celebrations.”
