A RAINBOW flag will today fly from the town hall in Oxford to mark the 10th anniversary of LGBT month.
For the final Friday of LGBT month, known as Purple Friday, supporters will wear purple across Britain.
The group representing the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender community aims to stamp out homophobia, bi-phobia and transphobia and will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year.
The flag raising follows campaign group Stonewall’s Teachers’ 2014 Report that nine out of 10 secondary school teachers have experienced homophobic bullying.
The report said teachers regularly heard “that’s so gay” and “you’re so gay” used as derogatory terms and almost half of primary school teachers have noticed homophobic bullying.

Oxford city councillor Tom Hayes, who has the backing of Oxfordshire County Council to raise the flag, said: “Many people think that because we are lucky to live in such an inclusive city, we don’t need to go on raising awareness, but we need to keep creating conditions for LGBT people to feel comfortable and safe.”
