RECYCLING is being made fun thanks to puppets made out of hoovers and feather dusters in the musical Cinderella Green the Recycling Queen.

Created by puppeteers Hannah Rhodes and Emma Boor, the play sees Cinderella Green work for her two wasteful sisters Mopella and J-Cloth, but eventually work to clean up the kingdom. Miss Boor, 39, is usually based at the Pegasus Theatre in East Oxford and is taking the play on a Christmas tour for school groups to enjoy.

She said: “This is the first pantomine the college has had, which is great.

“I usually work at the Pegasus Theatre or in Chipping Norton so this is about trying to reach a new audience and spreading Christmas cheer.

“It’s going really well, it’s excellent.”

The East Oxford resident added: “There are lots of points where the audience can get involved to help identify what’s recyclable by rattling different materials at different points in the play. It’s your average musical with an eco-message.”

This eco-themed show has been so popular she got an offer from Oxford University Press to write her own book, Bin Goblins, published in September.

The show is at the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building at St Hilda’s College until Monday. For more information email jdp@st-hildas.ox.ac.uk
