MADISON McDonagh has had her Christmas wish come true by placing high in an international dance competition.

The nine-year-old, from Woodstock, came fifth in the freestyle dance contest Disco Kid. To get a trophy from the Europe-wide contest has been top of Madison’s Christmas wish list since she was five.

The Woodstock Primary School pupil said: “It’s always been one of my biggest dreams and I always think if you put your biggest wish down on your list to Father Christmas it might come true.”

Madison danced her way to the top in the finals at Blackpool’s Tower Ballroom last weekend, beating hundreds of other children under the age of 16.

She said: “I danced against a lot of people on a big dance floor, then, when I got through to the last round, I had to dance on my own in the spotlight.

“The dance is called freestyle contemporary and I did a slow dance in the final. It’s sort of like ballet, but a bit faster and quite passionate.”

Madison is a Flair Dance Studio student at Blackbird Leys Academy, run by her mother, Kelly-Jayne Poulter.

Mrs Poulter said nine other girls from the school competed and two did well in the supporting event. Macy Timony, 11, won while Enya Christiansen, 15, was third.

Mrs Poulter said: “The whole school did very well, but Madison was the only one to come away with a trophy.”
