The Home Office has responded to an open letter sent to the Prime Minister by academics, charities and politicians opposed to the expansion of Campsfield House Immigration Removal Centre in Kidlington.

Home Office official Karen Abdel-Hady wrote to the signatories of the letter on Monday. In the letter she said: “The capacity of the immigration detention estate is kept under rolling review. Comments on the application can be addressed to Cherwell council.”

The Home Office and the Ministry of Justice is seeking a 290-bed extension to the 276-bed Langford Lane centre.
