THREE Oxford buildings have been shortlisted in the 2015 Civic Trust Awards in recognition of their outstanding architecture.

The John Henry Brookes and Abercrombie building on the Headington campus of Oxford Brookes University and the Maggie’s Oxford cancer centre at the Churchill Hospital have been put forward.

Meanwhile, the Oxford University Museum of Natural History is on the list for an AABC Conservation Award, the section of the competition for older buildings.

The three are among 147 projects across the country – 16 from the South East – which have put forward for the finals out of 238 applications.

They will find out next month if they have made the final cut, and winners will then be revealed at the Civic Trust Awards ceremony on March 6 next year.

This is not the first nod for the John Henry Brookes and Abercrombie building, which opened in February.

It won the Oxford Preservation Trust Awards 2014 last month and the Royal Institute of British Architects’ Regional and National awards earlier in the year.

The Maggie’s Oxford building, which resembles a treehouse, opened in October after £3m was raised to replace a portable building at the rear of the hospital site, which had been in use since 2006.

Centre head Claire Marriott said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have been nominated for a Civic Trust Award, especially as great design and architecture is so vital to the care Maggie’s Oxford offers.

“The centre is designed to create a calm and uplifting environment as well as providing a programme of support to strengthen physical and emotional wellbeing for people with cancer.”

The Oxford University Museum of Natural History has been included because of a £2m restoration project, which involved removing, cleaning and resealing 8,500 glass panes in the roof. It took 14 months to complete the work, stopping the roof from leaking.
