Final plans for the £400m redevelopment of the Westgate Shopping Centre are set to be approved tonight.

The scheme would overhaul the centre and add cafes, restaurants, a cinema and a John Lewis department store.

As part of the works, the existing multi-storey car park would be demolished and replaced with an underground one.

Oxford City Council officers have recommended the plans for approval.

Approval was given in principle in March, but tonight’s meeting will present more detailed plans to be considered.

The west area planning committee will meet in Town Hall at 6.30pm to make the decision. Go to oxfordmail.co.uk for live coverage of the meeting.
