TALENTED youngsters got into the festive spirit as they created Christmas decorations this week.

Pupils at East Oxford Primary School, in Union Street, gathered after school to create their 3D lanterns inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales.

More than 20 families volunteered to take part in the craft session on Wednesday.

Pupil Amir Rana, 10, said: “When we had finished making the lanterns, we decorated them with sequins and mirrors.

“All of the lanterns look amazing and everyone who came said how much fun they had.”

The lanterns will be donated to East Oxford’s Pegasus Theatre and Magdalen Road Studios for their Christmas pop-up festival.

The festival is set to take place on November 22 and 23 across Magdalen Road and the youngsters’ creations will be used as part of a lantern trail.

Headteacher Russell Kaye said: “Families enjoyed making the lanterns and the children are looking forward to seeing them on display in Magdalen Road.”

Arts centre Pegasus Theatre, in Magdalen Road, specialises in performing arts for young people across the city, while charity Magdalen Road Studios provides artists with studio and exhibition space.
