A CREATIVE writing lecturer at Oxford Brookes has been highlighted as one of the most promising poets in the British Isles by the Poetry Book Society.
Hannah Lowe has been included on the Society’s Next Generation Poet list, a selection of 20 British and Irish poets which is published just once every 10 years.
Ms Lowe said: “Lots of the writers on this list are the writers I was reading five years ago thinking ‘I want to be like you’, so to be in their esteemed company is fantastic.

“Poetry is closer to music and art than it is necessarily to fiction.
“The poetry I love and try to write is always strongly visual. I try to paint with words.”
Poet and broadcaster Ian McMillan was chairman of the panel of judges who drew up the list. He said: “The Next Generation Poets are the visible and vocal evidence that poetry is on the crest of a wave at the moment.
“These poets will be leading our national cultural conversation for many years to come.”
Ms Lowe’s latest collection of poems, Ormonde, was released on Tuesday.
