A PROJECT has been launched to help Witney residents remember their loved ones at Christmas.

The Rotary Club of Witney has set up the Treasured Memories scheme, which offers people the chance to have the name of a friend or relative and short message on a memorial board in the town centre for a £1 donation.

The display will remain in place throughout December and donors, whose money will be given to charities, will also be given a remembrance card.

Club president Mike Alexander said: “A number of other Rotary Clubs already run similar schemes and we know that many people really appreciate an opportunity to remember their loved ones in this way.

“We have talked to other clubs to see how their schemes work and have adapted the idea to suit the circumstances here in the town.

“We have already had a number of people expressing their support.”

To take part, collect a form from Lee Chadwick Solicitors at 14 Market Square, Witney.

Witney resident Richard Smith, a former voluntary service organiser at Witney Community Hospital, said: “It’s a lovely idea.

“Christmas is the season that evokes memories of good times past and of loved ones who are no longer with us.

“This scheme means that we can remember them by making a donation which will help others who are less fortunate than ourselves.”
