A DEBATE on the mounting costs of funerals is being held as part of the Kicking the Bucket Festival.

The festival features more than 40 events across Oxfordshire on the theme of life, death and dying.

Running until November 13 it seeks to break the taboo about death.

A debate on one of the most controversial issues surrounding death, Funeral Poverty – How Much Should Your Funeral Cost?, is being held at the Friends Meeting House, in St Giles, on Saturday from 10am to 11.30am.

Speakers will include a representative of the funeral business, Jeremy Field, who will discuss the rising costs of funerals and its impact on ordinary people.

Other speakers include Rosie Inman Cook, from the Natural Death Centre, and the Rev Philip Sutton, from the Chaplaincy and Bereavement Service at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

Festival organiser, performer and green burial ground manager Liz Rothschild, from Coleshill, near Faringdon, said: “The Kicking the Bucket Festival gives people the opportunity to explore new ideas, make plans, share your concerns and get creative.”
