PUMPKIN hunters are out in force at Waterperry Gardens as they aim to find as many of the autumnal vegetables as they can to claim a homemade biscuit.

The event at the garden centre, near Wheatley, is now in its sixth year and horticultural manager Rob Jacobs said it was as popular as ever.

He said: “It has gone well so far and it is running for the rest of the week.

“It gets the kids out and about and running about. My kids still do it and Beatrice is 13 and Martha is nine.

“Beatrice pretends she’s too cool for it but they both love it.

“We started running it because parents were coming up here with their children and they wanted something for them to do.

“The idea is to wear the kids out.

“They are all proper, real pumpkins but we draw the faces on instead of carving them because they would collapse over the course of the week if they were carved.

“Once the kids have found all the pumpkins they get a biscuit at the end.”
