THESE renewed Victorian stained-glass windows will brighten up the Wesley Memorial Church in Oxford.

The windows were originally installed when the church in New Inn Hall Street was opened in 1878, but were recently found to be in need of urgent attention. Parishioners raised £47,000 between March and August this year and the work, which started on August 11, was due to take about eight weeks to complete.

Church caretaker Trevor Wood said: “The work has made the church much lighter, especially when the sun comes through.

“It has been a big talking point for members of the congregation, as well as for our visitors from around the world.”

Funds for the project came from several individual donors, a “virtual wedding present” from a newly-married couple and Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust, the church said in its September newsletter.

The work was carried out by Chapel Studio Stained Glass Limited.
