EIGHT-YEAR-OLD Jessica Elder and her five-year-old brother George encountered some unusual masks at Witney’s Marriotts Walk shopping centre.

The siblings, from Witham, in Essex, visited the centre with their grandfather Jerry Freestone, from Witney, to see the display of Javanese and Indonesian dance masks, part of an outreach exhibition staged on Thursday by Oxford’s Pitt Rivers Museum, and created their own masks.

George said: “It was awesome and I really enjoyed making the masks. It was a great fun day.”

Mr Freestone said: “It was a bit windy but it was fun and they enjoyed making the masks.

“They had a great time visiting Oxfordshire.”
