VOLUNTEERS in Blackbird Leys came together to clear rubbish blocking a brook and help the water flow freely.

Five volunteers removed branches, foliage and other debris from the water in Spindleberry Nature Reserve. Clearing the brook will help protect wildlife in the vicinity.

The event was part of the conservation volunteers’ regular schedule, working around Blackbird Leys and Greater Leys.

Monique van Assouw, the group’s community project officer, said: “We do it for the wildlife and those who live nearby. It’s also a legacy for future generations.

“Some of us had to get down into the brook to remove the debris, which can be dangerous as you can get stuck in the sinking soil.”
