THIS Bank Holiday Monday will see 24 people leap into the sky at 13,000 feet to raise money for quadruple amputee Charlotte Nott.

The six-year-old from Cowley had the lower part of her arms and legs amputated in 2010 after contracting meningitis and now uses prosthetic legs to walk.

The artificial limbs are not provided by the NHS and her family need to constantly fundraise to pay for them.

Her mother, Jenny Daniels, is hopeful the group skydive at Hinton Skydiving Centre, Brackley, will help raise money to pay for Charlotte’s replacement prosthetic limbs.

She said: “A new set of legs cost £6,000 and we’ve just spoken to a hospital in London about getting Charlotte a prosthetic arm, which would cost about £12,000.

“Her legs need to be replaced about every six months on average, which means we’re spending £12,000 a year on them plus another £12,000 on an arm. I don’t want people to think we have no money, we have £60,000 in her fund, but that money won’t last for long, she’ll need a lot over her life.

“It’s nice to know the money in the bank is protected by the fundraising.

“The community helps us and Charlotte has had a lot of support locally and from further afield.

“We have had lots of donations and someone has come from Australia to skydive, and someone from Yorkshire who is an amputee herself.”

Two of the skydivers helping to raise the funds are Keely Sinnott and her partner Mark Phillips, who took part in a similar fundraiser with seven other skydivers last year.

Miss Sinnott, 37, of Horspath, said: “I have known Charlotte since she was at pre-school with my daughter Isabelle and we always try to support fundraising events for her.

“We wanted to try skydiving so I approached Charlotte’s mum Jenny and asked her if we could do it for Charlotte.

“This year more the word has spread through the awareness raised by Charlotte’s family on their website and because friends of friends have got involved and some people who were maybe a bit afraid last year.”

“These events are massively important and if the family get support locally it is really fantastic.

“It is a fundraising event but also a statement of support for them and it raises awareness of issues people with prosthetics face.”
