CHARLES Gardener and his terrier Diddy were top dogs at a village fete but left without their trophy.

But thanks to an appeal in our sister newspaper, the Cotswold Journal, the pair from Chipping Norton have now received their silverware.

Nine-year-old Charles was given the winner’s rosette at the fete in the Gloucestershire village of Oddington, near Kingham, on June 29, after Diddy was named the show’s top dog, but the organisers forgot to present him with the cup.

An appeal in the pages of the paper was seen by Charles’s grandmother and she got in touch with Susan Watkin, one of the fete’s organisers, to arrange a belated presentation.

She said: “Charles and Diddy have been presented with the trophy and the moment was recorded for posterity. And they’ll be back at Oddington Fete on June 28 next year as defending champions.”
