MORE than 100 protesters marched through Oxford on Saturday in opposition to military action by Israel in Gaza.

The campaigners started at Manzil Way off Cowley Road at about 2pm and marched to Broad Street where speeches were made. Palestinian Dr Mahmoud Hawari, a researcher at Oxford University’s Faculty of Oriental Studies, was among the speakers.

He said: “This was part of a series of actions that will take place in Oxford.

“Support for our cause is growing as more and more people are becoming aware of the situation in Gaza.”

Fighting broke out in Gaza on July 8 and a ceasefire is currently in effect.

More than 2,000 people, mostly Palestinians, have been killed.

There was also a march in favour of Kurdish independence and opposing the actions of militant Islamist group IS in Iraq.

About 100 people walked from the car park at Tesco in Cowley to the Westgate Centre on Sunday afternoon.
