THERE were muddy hands and campfire cooking at Rock Edge Nature Reserve, Headington, yesterday as youngsters enjoyed the outdoors.

Seven-year-old Pauline Schwaebisch was one of the children, along with her younger sister Lucy, four, learning to cook lunch on a campfire, as the group made dough, which was then cooked on sticks over the fire, as part of an outdoor activity day.

The Windmill Primary School pupil, from Headington, said: “I had fun, and my favourite bit was getting my hands muddy.”

Her mum, Sabine, 33, said: “It’s really quite nice for the kids to just do nature stuff and enjoy being outside.”

Mrs Schwaebisch, a learning disability nurse at Helen House, added: “The stick bread thing is something we would not have been able to do ourselves without a lot of preparation, so it’s nice to be able to do that. It was brilliant, and a really lovely day.”
