OXFORD artist Rose-Marie Caldecott unveiled a collection of paintings about ‘letting go’, at Art Jericho.
The 21-year-old Abingdon Road resident will exhibit at the King Street gallery until August 31.
Her work is in dedication to her father, Straford Caldecott, who passed away on July 17 aged 60 after a battle with prostate cancer.
The Falmouth School of Art graduate said: “As my father developed prostate cancer, I puzzled over how unprepared we are for death, especially that of our loved ones.
“I also started to notice how afraid of not being in control we are.
“Using that insight I sought to create paintings that gently encourage the viewer to see the beauty in that which we cannot control.”
Gallery director Jenny Blythy said: “Galleries are often a little ginger about showing very young artists for so many reasons, they are often in a state of flux on many levels, and largely the work is not sufficiently resolved.
“That said, there are some exceptional younger artists. Rose-Marie Caldecott, is one such artist.”
