£500k funding for uni's smart glasses
8:40am Saturday 2nd August 2014 in News
‘Smart’ glasses designed by Oxford University which help blind people to see have been awarded £500,000 worth of funding.
The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and the university worked together to develop the technology to maximise the remaining vision a person has left.
Many of the testers who tried the glasses were able to see shapes and obstacles for the first time in years.
The money was awarded after they were voted one of the winners of the Google Impact Challenge 2014 after a public vote. It will allow 100 pairs to be made and tested.
