Westgate incident unexplained

First published in News

Police have still not explained why officers cordoned off part of the Westgate shopping centre car park on Thursday evening.

The force at the time told the Oxford Mail it had received reports of “suspicious activity”, but would not give further details.

Tim Firth, 27, from Abingdon, said he had seen part of the lower level of the car park cordoned off.

A Thames Valley Police spokeswoman last night said there was no record of an incident.

If police prevent access to the public, then an explanation should be forthcoming as a courtesy.

If, for reasons of security, they decline to release information then they should say so.

In this age of official box ticking, I very much doubt "...there was no record of an incident...".
