SUE Gristwood has been helping to keep Oxfordshire’s blood supplies topped up for 52 years and on Monday she donated her 100th pint at Cheney School, Headington.

Mrs Gristwood, 71, from Headington, first donated when she worked for Morris Motors in 1962 and has donated twice a year almost every year since, stopping briefly only when she was pregnant with each of her two daughters, Debbie and Simone.

She said: “Back in 1962 there were lots of people in need of blood, as there still are today. My family were blood donors and I wanted to do my bit and help out so I went down and donated and I haven’t stopped since. Whenever I miss one of the mobile sessions I make sure I go to the John Radcliffe and donate there instead.

“I think it’s a very important thing to do and I’m glad I’ve been able to help out down the years.”
