The levels of Oxfordshire’s rivers will now be ‘tweeted’, under a new service.

The tool, called GaugeMap, uses data collected by the Environment Agency to share up-to-date information about rivers and other waterways on microblogging website Twitter.

One example is Osney Lock, tweeting under the account @riverlevel_0945, which is just one of 2,400 stations included.

Rod Plummer, of developer Shoothill, said his company hoped the information will be used in fishing, transport and sports.
