VOLUNTEERS at a mental health charity got back to basics at a summer event.
Restore, on Manzil Way, launched its therapeutic garden during summer festivities at Littlemore Health Centre on Wednesday.
Volunteers and staff of the charity’s Littlemore-based recovery group were visited by Oxford’s Lord Mayor Mohammed Abbasi, who officially opened the garden.
The garden has been developed by service users to support those suffering with mental health difficulties.
Recovery worker Sally Harris, 29, said: “It will offer our members another therapeutic activity. It’s good for them to be outside in the fresh air. I think it’s really therapeutic for people to see plants growing from a seed that they planted themselves and being able to spend time outside.”
Vegetables and herbs will be grown in the garden to be used when cooking within the on-site cafe.
The event saw the charity returning to its roots after initially launching as a one-acre vegetable patch at the Littlemore site in 1977.
Live music, a barbeque and cakes entertained visitors.
