PHOTOGRAPHERS are being challenged to take pictures of an island less than half a mile from the centre of Oxford.
Aston’s Eyot, which sits just below Christ Church Meadow, is a 30-acre mass of land bounded on the west by the River Thames and on the east by the River Cherwell.
Now the Friends of Aston’s Eyot are putting together a calendar of photographs to show off the island’s rich range of habitats.
Spokesman Anthony Cheke said: “The photos for this year’s edition have been selected by the committee.
“For next year however we invite people to submit their own photos for a competition.
“There are no prizes, except you get your name credited and a good present to give out to show your photographic prowess.”
Pictures sent in must be at least two megabytes in size and be taken on Aston’s Eyot or nearby from The Kidneys.
They should illustrate plants, animals, scenes or activities on the Eyot.
Send pictures to anthony.cheke@virginmedia.com before August 15. The friends will select the winners in the Autumn.
