WOOD Farm Primary schoolchildren got their chance to dance to the beat by performing with a samba band.

The band, Bloco Olofi, arrived from Brighton to run sessions in teaching the children how to play the traditional Brazilian music.

Alex Zajac, 11, got his go on the drums at the Oxford school’s international event to celebrate diversity.

He said: “We played a piece of music that was about 10 minutes long. I was on the big bass drum instead of the tamborine and shakers because they said I was better at that.

“I’m really happy I got to do it because most people don’t get to do that sort of thing.”

Alex Mann is the band’s musical director.

He said: “We did three sessions for years three, four and five with 30 instruments.

“It was a great day, it was lovely. The children all really enjoyed the workshop.”
